A life in Christ is one of constant surrender and this includes fitness. Whenever you get to a place where you think you are “good” and that you got it all together, this is when you actually don’t. I will explain more so bear with me. I personally ask the Lord to examine my heart regularly. And recently I took a fast from “fitness” because even though I minister through fitness, I could feel my attention being pulled away from where God wanted me. I know fitness itself is not a bad thing but whatever you focus your attention on can easily become a distraction and turn into idol worship. If you have been following my fitness journey, you know I have seen a transformation in my fitness because of the help of the Holy Spirit but somewhere I got stuck and have not quite achieved my personal goals. I was so close yet so far. And I realized that where I got stuck was that I felt so empowered that I could make it to the end in my own strength, but I couldn’t, and I can’t, and I don’t want to because I want God to get all the glory, and I want to exalt the best fitness coach I have been given which is the person of the Holy Spirit. I am not assuming that everyone knows who the Holy Spirit is because even the disciples of John in the Book of Acts chapter 19 did not have a clue to who the Holy Spirit was. As they responded to Paul's question “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” And they said, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”
Before I became a born-again believer in 2010 when I was 27 years old. I had grown up Catholic, my father was Methodist and I experienced that church from time to time but my mother was the one who led our home in her faith. I have many nice experiences in this context, but I always knew something was missing. I strayed away from the church, more so as moved away to college, but the supernatural continued to draw me in. I engaged in alternative spiritual practices such as Tarot cards, palm reading, horoscopes, Marijuana use, spiritists, crystals, and new age, I even attended a new age church for a time because I was still seeking. It wasn’t until 2010 that I found what had been missing all along, It was Jesus! When I got the revelation of who Jesus was it was like my life flashed before me, things that I had been taught when I was younger started coming to mind and my mind was blown away with this truth. This reminded me of John 14:26.
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
When I accepted Jesus into my heart, a supernatural energy came over me, and I was filled with excitement and emotion to learn that Jesus was right there with me, He was always with me, and waiting for me to let Him in. I never felt so much love, it was an amazing experience. Now I understand that this was the Holy Spirit entering me but our love relationship had only begun. When we receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, He comes into us and dwells in us and we become temples of the Holy Spirit. But this is not the end, only the beginning. Next, comes the baptism of the Holy Spirit which not all believers experience. I will go back to Acts, chapter 19. Paul asked the group of disciples, “Into what then were you baptized?” They said, “Into John's baptism.” And Paul said, “John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, Jesus.” On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking in tongues and prophesying. There were about twelve men in all.
One of my favorite scriptures is Acts 1:8 which states “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
See, it is this empowerment that the Holy Spirit brings that gives us strength and ability. He is the source of all true power. In Philippians 2:13 “for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.” And Psalm 32:8 reads “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.” This is why even many Christians don’t experience healings, miracles, deliverances, or the supernatural power of God because they have not experienced the Spirit of God. There are so many things I could have never accomplished without the Holy Spirit. He is a game-changer! A life changer! A transformer of lives, communities, and nations! This is why I want to give Him the glory for every accomplishment in my life including all my breakthroughs and being able to achieve and sustain my health and fitness goals.
“… Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts.”
This is why I fasted from fitness because I wanted the Holy Spirit to lead me in this area again. I wanted to lay down my ideas and for Him to share what He wants for me, His plans, and His strategies. Jentzen Franklin expressed that fasting bridges the gap between where we are and where we want to be. This is why my recent podcasts deviated from my usual content because I let myself be led by the Holy Spirit. This is also the reason why I will be changing the name of my podcast from “Break Free, Get Fit” to “A Powerful Life Podcast”. I will still cover fitness, but I want you to live powerfully in all areas of your life. I want you to live a supernatural life in the power of the Holy Spirit. I don’t only want you to see a breakthrough in your fitness but to see you excel in your God-given purpose and dreams.
And we are witnesses to these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.”
If you want to be baptized in the Holy Spirit right now or receive a new infilling of the Spirit of God, I want to pray for you.
Father God in the name of Jesus, I thank you for every person listening or reading the message today. They are coming to you because you are calling them into a closer relationship with you. They are coming in obedience and want to receive more of you, they want to receive the promise of the Holy Spirit that is for every believer, I ask you to baptize them now with the Holy Ghost and Fire! Fill them Lord with your spirit until they are completely full! Satisfy them with your supernatural presence and envelop them in your love. Transform their hearts and minds and give them a fresh revelation of who you are. Speak to them and tell them great and mighty things that have been hidden. Give them a vision of their purpose and calling. Make it crystal clear. Place a greater desire for you in their hearts. Teach them to depend on you and be full of you every day. Do what only you can do in their lives. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
